Warriors Push Celtics to the Brink With Game 5 Win to Take a 3-2 Series Lead in the NBA Finals

-

The Golden State Warriors moved to within 1 win of another NBA crown after knocking off the Celtics in Game 5 with a 104 to 94 win. Andrew Wiggins lead the way with 26 points and 13 rebounds while Boston was able to stifle Steph Curry who finished with 16 points and 8 assists. It was the first playoff game in Curry’s career that he didn’t convert at least 1 3-pointer. Boston’s defense keyed in on Curry after his 43 point outburst helped to even the series on Friday night.

The supporting cast for Golden State was brilliant throughout the night as Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole and Gary Payton II all took up the slack created by Curry’s lack of scoring.

Boston kept it close throughout going on a run in the 3rd quarter to take a lead after trailing by double digits at the break. Jayson Tatum poured in 27 points for the Eastern Conference Champions. But the C’s were never able to put together a consistent run outside of the 3rd quarter outburst.

Golden State is now in position to win their 4th title in 8 years on Thursday night in Boston. A decisive Game 7 will take place on Sunday in San Francisco if necessary.
