Tom Cruise got his first $100 million opening weekend with the Memorial Day weekend opening of the long awaited sequel to Top Gun. Estimates are that Top Gun: Maverick will cross the $150 million mark by the end of Memorial Day. Including international dollars, the movie has already approached $250 million.

The film was originally scheduled to be released in 2019 but was delayed initially for production and then because of challenges presented by the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The film features an All-Star cast lead by Cruise and featuring Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and Val Kilmer who played Ice-Man in the original film 30 years ago.
