Prove ‘Em Wrong: The Life of Andrew Minott

-

In this episode of Stop, Look and Listen, we speak with Andrew Minott, a Jamaican-born author, promoter, producer, and music consultant about his soon to be released autobiography, “Prove ‘Em Wrong.” Andrew shares his journey from being a young, single father of two sons to his current role as a father to a blended family of three sons, one daughter, two stepsons, and three young men he helped raise.

Andrew speaks candidly about the challenges he faced combating negative perceptions of Black parenthood and debunking the pervasive stereotype that Black fathers are absent from their children’s lives. He shares his own experience of being involved in his children’s daily lives and how that is by far his greatest accomplishment.

We also learn about Andrew’s early years, where he faced disappointments and obstacles, including his father’s lack of interest and financial support in his pursuit of attending college. Andrew pursued college on his own and enlisted in the Navy, where he spent ten years in active duty and reserves, studying aviation and exploring his passion for concert promotion and production.

Throughout his career, Andrew has faced daunting defeats but has also gained moderate success with certain clients and performers. He credits his cousin and Jamaican singer/producer Lincoln Barrington “Sugar” Minott for having the biggest influence in his decision to continue pursuing his passion for music.

Join us in this episode as we explore Andrew’s story and the central themes he disseminates with conviction to his readers, including the importance of perseverance and the realization that experiences can be learned from triumphs to defeats.
