Patrick Lyoya was shot in the back of the head by a Michigan police officer while facedown on the ground according to an independent autopsy. Lawyer’s announced the findings of the report earlier today. The finding by matches what was seen last week on video that was released by the Grand Rapids, Michigan police chief. The official autopsy report hasn’t been released to the public at this time.
Embed from Getty ImagesThe 26-year-old refugee from Congo was shot on April 4th after a traffic stop in Michigan. He and the white officer had a physical struggle before the shooting took place. He wasn’t armed and the officer can be heard on the video demanding that Lyoya take his hand off a police taser.
The name of the officer has not been released and was heard saying during the traffic stop that the license plate didn’t match the car. A short foot chase took place after Lyoya declined to get back into the vehicle. The medical examiner that performed the autopsy, Dr. Werner Spitz said that he believes the gun was pressed against Lyoya’s head.
