This week on The Unemployment Line, The Dok and Larry P start with a question every longtime customer has probably asked: why do companies give their best deals to everybody except the people who’ve been loyal for years? From Sam’s Club and SiriusXM to Netflix and forgotten subscriptions, the guys break down why sometimes the only way to get a company to appreciate you is to threaten to leave. That somehow leads to unlimited PTO, working from home and whether most people really need eight hours to finish an eight-hour workday.
Then things get complicated when the conversation turns to relationships, “hyper-independence” and the idea of women wanting to enter their “soft girl era.” Can you spend years building a life where you don’t need anybody and then expect another person to step in and lead? The Dok and Larry P debate modern gender roles, vulnerability, expectations and why neither person should be the prize, the relationship itself should be the prize.
Finally, a reported cocaine operation involving Penn State students and fraternity members sends the show completely off the rails. The guys debate accountability when pledges participate in criminal activity, why the situation was treated differently from drug busts they’ve seen elsewhere, and arrive at perhaps the most important lesson of the episode: if you’re going to commit crimes, stop doing crimes with idiots.
