Wrong Address Leads to Fatal Shooting of Young Woman

-

A young woman named Kaylin Gillis lost her life in a fatal shooting in Hebron, a rural town in upstate New York. Gillis, who was 20 years old, was traveling with three other people when they mistakenly turned onto the property of 65-year-old Kevin Monahan. As they were trying to turn the car around and leave, Monahan came out onto his porch and fired two shots, one of which struck the vehicle and fatally wounded Gillis.

Monahan was later arrested and charged with second-degree murder. When authorities arrived at his house to investigate the shooting, he refused to come out and was uncooperative. It took more than an hour of speaking with him through a 911 dispatcher and in person before he was taken into custody.

The incident took place in a very rural area with limited cell phone service, making it easy to get lost. Gillis lived in Schuylerville and was described as an innocent young girl who was out with friends looking for another friend’s house.

This tragedy occurred just days after another similar incident in Kansas City, Missouri, where 16-year-old Ralph Yarl was shot and wounded after going to the wrong house to pick up his younger brothers. Yarl was released from the hospital Sunday and is recovering at home after arriving in critical condition after the incident.
