Florida Department of Education Bans Math Textbooks Due to ‘Critical Race Theory’

-

The state of Florida’s Department of Education has announced that the state has rejected over 50 math textbooks from next year’s K-12 curriculum because of alleged references to critical race theory and other rejections. In a news release, they stated that 54 of 132 textbook submissions would not be added to the state’s list of textbooks because they didn’t meet Florida’s new standards in regards to the controversial subject of critical race theory.

The books accounted for 41% of submissions marking the most rejections in the history of the state.

The president of the Florida Education Association Andrew Spar, called for transparency on how the state’s department of education came to the decisions.

Educators across the country have been arguing that critical race theory is generally not included in grade school teaching.

Florida lawmakers banned the teaching of critical race theory in schools in June of 2021.
